The Big Dance

Posted on: September 12th, 2014 by president No Comments

To all Family, Friends, Past & Current Soldiers;

Two teams will head to TG Milner Oval in Eastwood tomorrow to contest their respective Grand Finals.

The Blunt Cup (3rd Grade) has been won by the club 4 times in the 43 year history of the cup; with all 4 of those coming in the last 16 years. The most recent was the famous 2008 & 2009 teams. Some of which are still in this current team! The current squad is 14-4 for the 2014 season and have a star-studded line-up for tomorrows encounter. 10:15am kickoff.

The Robertson Cup has been in existence for 25 years and has been won by Lindfield 3 times in its history. The last time we took home the Cup was the 2005 season. The current crop are 18-1 for the year and are extremely focused and determined to do the business. 11:40am kickoff.

There are a few good reasons as to why one would begin consumption of that infamous brew of hops and barley so early on a Saturday morning and the big-dance is on the top of that list!

Come and support this proud club if you have the time. We have former players and committee members coming from far and wide to see the boys lift the trophies.

We are heading as a group to the Greengate Hotel at the conclusion of the Colts trophy presentation (around 2:30pm) for some lunch and a catch up. Plans are in place for watching the Wallabies & kick-on at a secret location… if you want to be involved see you at the Gate!

Win, loose or draw the Old Soldier is already super proud.

However, winning seems to be everyone’s preferred course of action.

Dig in boys!

Old Soldier.

Putting in the hard yards for Melanoma Research

Posted on: July 29th, 2014 by president No Comments

Lindfield Rugby Club and the Melanoma Institute of Australia are this year joining forces to raise money for the fight against Melanoma – one of Australia’s fastest growing diseases and one that has touched one of our own.

In 2011, Lindfield colts assistant coach Andrew Morbey lost his dad David to melanoma, only 8 months after he was diagnosed. He left behind a wife and four children.

In 2012, he raised $10,000 with his mum for the institute and continues his work to this day. This year, Andrew is using the City2Surf an event that his Dad used to run, as a way to raise another $10,000 to help fight the disease and a means to remember his father.

“Dad was always encouraging us to play sport and he used to run in the City2Surf, but I never got a chance to run with him” remembers Andrew.

Lindfield Rugby is lending it’s support to Andrew’s cause, and is asking our players and supporters to get involved by either running with Andrew and the LRU in the race or by helping us reach our goal of $10,000 for the Melanoma Institute. For all runners, you also receive a limited edition LRU Old Soldiers singlet.

To get involved in the LRU run on August 10, please contact Andrew on andrewmorbey@hotmail.com by Friday 1st August and to donate to the Lindfield Old Soldiers run visit https://city2surf2014.everydayhero.com/au/lindfield-rugby-club

Toby Crisp Fundraiser

Posted on: May 14th, 2014 by president No Comments

As many would be aware, Balmain player Toby Crisp, collapsed on the field during the club’s 4th grade match v Mosman.

After undergoing surgery and being in a coma, Toby passed away last Fri, 9 May. The Union’s condolences are with Toby’s family and teammates during this terribly sad time.

Balmain RFC is holding a fundraiser for Toby’s family on Sun 18 May. See attached for further details.

The Crisp family and Balmain Rugby will distribute funds raised in Toby’s honour towards:
* CPR training for local sporting clubs
* Donation to the ICU unit at Royal Prince Alfred.
* Contribution towards defibrillators for Subbies Rugby Clubs
* Assisting with costs for Toby’s wake

Please take a moment to consider your contribution, and please publicise the fundraiser to your teammates and friends.

Balmain RFC thanks those from the Subbies ‘family’ and the wider rugby community who have sent their best wishes and support. In particular, their heartfelt thanks goes to Mosman RFC who helped so magnificently when Toby was being attended to on the field.
