A Christmas message from the Lindfield Rugby Club President

Posted on: December 22nd, 2011 by president No Comments

Season’s Greetings

As 2011 closes we look back on a year of highs and lows. Throughout all of it though we stood together as a club and as incoming President I am proud of all those who were involved with Lindfield Rugby this year.

While on the field we didn’t see the results we wanted, so much can be taken from what we did see. At no point in the season did we have more than three quarters of a playing roster fully available. Our medical staff should be congratulated and receive our gratitude for all their work.

The injury toll placed major pressures on the rest of the club to play more than one game every week. Given all these issues it should be noted that we only forfeited one match last year. And that was only because the bus driver took the players via Bathurst on the way to Campbelltown.

What this pressure showed us is that the future of Lindfield is in capable hands. The number of Colts playing not only their own match but also running on in 1st and 2nd grades shows the depth of talent prevalent at Lindfield.

Despite all the dramas that occurred in 2011 the newly appointed Coaches and Committee are already working hard towards the success of 2012. Both on and off the field we will work to elevate Lindfield Rugby Club to greater heights.

We will be facing some determined and ambitious clubs next year keen to make their mark on Subbies Rugby.  Petersham (NSW Subbies Club of the Year) and Balmain are both in Div 2 next year ready to take on all comers. We will once again face rivals Forest who will seek revenge for us knocking them out of Div 1. Not to mention the other Div 2 Clubs that can make winning against them difficult on their day.  With the talent in this Club and the determination of our coaches I firmly believe we are ready to face the challenges that lie ahead.

Off the field Lindfield will continue to be the example of how to enjoy rugby with your friends. The Committee is all ready putting together the events to celebrate the joy of simply being a part of Lindfield.

Training starts in January with some touch footy and some technical work building up to trials in March. Our first trial will be a trip to Nelson Bay. Beach, Beer and Rugby, is there a greater combination.

There a too many people to thank for their efforts in 2012, however I would like to personally thank outgoing President James “Marty” Lister for all the work has done as President over the last 2 years. You will be sorely missed form the Committee but we will see you down at Tryon Road I’m sure.

Simply as someone who loves Lindfield Rugby, I would like to say thank you to all those who took part in Season 2011 and I hope to see you all next year either on the field or just enjoying it from the sidelines.

Merry Christmas, have as safe holiday and great New Year. See you at Tryon Road in 2012.

Yours in Rugby

Ben Elston
